I'm really feeling this one. It makes me think of Orcas for some reason. Like in "Free Willy" the movie that Michael Jackson made the song "Will you be there?" for. I'm also feeling that song, if you have the means, I highly recommend you give it a listen.

The Eyes Are The Window To The Sole

One the earliest known origins for this familiar turn of phrase comes from, everyone's favorite Roman, Cicero. "Ut imago est animi voltus sic indices oculi," he was known to remark. Of course what the old boy was trying to say was, "The face is a picture of the mind as the eyes are its interpreter." He just insisted on speaking Latin for some strange reason. However, our team of crack scientists here at 5 Doors Up has discovered, that while well meaning, Cicero was mistaken and the actual window to the soul is.......(drum roll)......shoes. I know, we were surprised too. Permit me to demonstrate:

"Don't let me date your sister."

"Hello, I'm your new brother-in-law."

Game. Set. Match.

Extra! Extra! Edward Gorey Invents Emo in 1954!

A dreary young bank clerk named Fennis
Wished to foster an aura of menace;
To make people afraid
He wore gloves of grey suede
And white footgear intended for tennis.

The late great Edward Gorey wrote this little diddy in 1954 for his series of macabre limericks entitled The Listing Attic. However, upon reflection some 50 years later, one can easily see that this is actually an early prediction of the rise of the emo kid: skinny black jeans, crappy job, unsuitable gloves, and of course, everyone's favorite, Converse shoes. Truly a man ahead of his time.

Happy Inauguration Mr. President

Here's to a new president (the best dressed since Kennedy) and hopefully a new America. As one can see this is a man who knows the glory and importance of a good pair of shoes. In celebration let's all smoke cigarettes, play a little basketball, go body surfing, and wear our best shoes out into the world until the holes in the bottom peep back at us like little owl eyes of success.

Dudes on TV

Seattle band "Fleet Foxes" bearded their way onto this last SNL. One of the dudes, Mr. Josh Tillman, used to work at the shop and its good to see these boys getting big. They are definately one of the more talented groups to come out of the area as of late. They wear Blundstones. They have beards.
